WHAT IS HEAD START?
Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive early child development program for children between the ages of 3 and 5. The Head Start program provides high quality services for eligible children and their families including children with special needs and disabilities. Children and their families receive developmental services to meet the needs of the child through the public school systems and professional consultants. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities along with receiving medical and dental care and nutritious meals and snacks.

The STOP Organization Head Start Program offers center-based half-day or full day programs at select sites. All centers operate from September through May with hours that vary.

WHAT IS OFFERED?
Head Start provides children with activities and experiences to foster their development, to help them grow socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.  Head Start children socialize with others, gain educational skills, solve problems, and have experiences which help them become self-confident.  The children also improve their listening and speaking skills.  Head Start helps transition children from home to Head Start and from Head Start to kindergarten.

WHAT CAN HEAD START OFFER YOUR FAMILY?
Head Start recognizes the parents as the principal influence in their child's life.  We offer you, the parent, a sense of belonging, other support services, and a chance to be involved in activities to help your whole family.  We assist families to gain self-sufficiency and offer support while the family pursues career goals.  You have a voice in the Head Start program by serving on the Policy Council and Parent Center Committee.
